I am a tanager
A brightly-plumaged bird
That's of the family
That they call Thraupidae
I'm scarlet with black wings
In summer and in spring
I am a pretty bird
A scarlet tanager

I am a tanager
A brightly-plumaged bird
My genus Piranga
Species olivacea
I sing a burry note
Like robin with sore throat
I am a pretty bird
A scarlet tanager

I am a tanager
A brightly-plumaged bird
Now keep thou from my nest
Or you won't feel your best
My yellow pluméd bride
Our precious eggs doth hide
I am a pretty bird
A scarlet tanager

I am a tanager
A brightly-plumaged bird
Now southward I must fly
To seek out warmer climes
But I'll come back your way
Next year on some spring day
I am a pretty bird
A scarlet tanager
