I can't open Until Uru! Whenever I try, it first tries to get updated but then fails to download the upload file, and then I have no choice but to exit. Any suggestions?

My only suggestion would be to uninstall and re-install on the off chance that something got b0rked in the process of installing the UU patch.

I would think he means both Uru and the UU add-on...but it's probably best to wait and see what he says just in case.

Which shard are you trying to log into? Or are you even getting to that point? Hope you're able to fix it and join us in Tapestry.

You can't un-install Until Uru without un-installing that installation of Uru as well, so you'll have to un-install Uru and then re-install it and then re-apply the UU patch.

That doesn't mean I'll have to buy UU for $5.95 from Cyan again, does it?

No, you've already purchased the registration key, so you can install it as many times as you need to.

Has it ever worked? Have you ever connected to a shard?

Anyway, this is my first time trying to connect to UU. Whenever I try entering UU directly, it cannot update and closes. Whenever I try using the Uru Setup (single player), it asks me to report the error to Microsoft, then closes.

And what do you mean by the "specs" on my computer?

Are you using the shortcut that the installation placed on your desktop? If so, that no longer works after you install the Until URU patch. You need to delete that shortcut and put another one there. Navigate to the folder where the files are and click on "uruexplorer.exe" to open the game. Then right-click on that file and choose "send to desktop" and a shortcut will be created on your desktop to the correct file.

I think I know what my problem is! I uninstalled and reinstalled Uru and UU, and it said that I must replace the DirectOS Xtra with the run-time Xtra. Er... how do I do that?

Teroglahn, are you trying to use Uru live or the new Until Uru? If you are using the Uru Live, you will not get on as it doesn't work any longer. Until Uru is a totally separate service. As Donahoo said, we need to know what you are doing and at what point you are at to help you.

Same problem with me. When I run Until Uru, it always says that it can't download updates. This stareted to happend today. It worked just fine yesterday. I tried to reinstal the game, but didn't work. Then I uninstaled the game and instaled it again, but didn't work. Then I uninstaled Uru, deleted everything I had connected to it in registry and instaled it again, but it still doesn't work. Next thing I am going to do is to format entire hard disc and instal Windows XP and Uru again. If you have any solutions please post them soon ( I don't want to lose everything ). Thanks.

Usually if you can't retrieve updates it means that the auth server is down.

the cyan servers had a problem earlier today...in fact, this seems to be becoming a weekly event on the weekends (this is the 5th in a row). if you receive a message that uu is unable to download updates then the server is probably down.

when installing you need a clean install of abm - use the custom install to put it into a different folder on your hard drive - i created a folder called UntilUru right on the c drive. then i installed the uu patched to the same folder. i also created a shortcut on the desktop to make opening it easier.

Some other general suggestions if you're getting the "Unable to download update file" message:

Most likely (and especially if you've been able to connect before) the main auth server is just down. Wait a while and it should come back up eventually. This isn't a problem on your end, so there's nothing you can do about it.

It's also possible that you're being prevented from connecting to the dataserver by your own computer/setup. First, make sure that your firewall is set up appropriately. One way to test this is to temporarily disable your firewall (make sure you have everything on your system updated and patched first!) and try to run the game. If you can get in, then you know that there is something wrong with the way your firewall is configured.

It's also possible that you have some kind of spyware program that's taking over the required ports. I can't see how anything should block outgoing traffic, but others have reported that after running Spybot Search and Destroy that UU started working again. It might be worth a try; it's good practice to do this regularly anyway.

Finally, (or perhaps you should do this first, because it's easiest) make sure that Internet Explorer isn't set to work offline. This has an effect even if you don't use Internet Explorer as a web browser. I don't know why, but it does.

There is something else that happens too. You may have a bad patch. I had to download the patch 12 times before I got a good one.
