Contrary to apparent popular belief around here, I am not the new Uru Community Manager at UbiSoft. That distinction goes to Ron Meiners. He's known on the forums as Randomos.

While he's an extremely adept community manager by trade, he's not quite completely up-to-speed on the depth of the D'ni Universe related to Uru, so be nice to him, go easy, and help him out of you see he needs it smile.gif.

A big Shorah to Ron!

That's too bad Al. You would have made a great manager.
But,

Congrats Ron.

ipbblinky.gif Hi all,

I do come to this forum! Or at least I will as much as I get a chance. Alahmnat clearly has the support of the community (ie., you!) and I want to learn from him.

In addition to all of the learning I have to do with respect to D'ni matters, we've been having terrible technical problems here. So I'll apologize in advance if I'm not here as much as I'd like to be.

Questions? What do you really want to know?

I do appreciate any feedback too- best as I can I will try to get it to the right people.

Best all...

randomos

PS... just as a hypothetical, you understand, if there were a commemorative edition of Myst put out... what would it be really cool to find inside? Idle curiousity, if you will...

Best all!

Welcome randomos!

Yep Al has a great site here, definitely a resource for "the community".

Re the Commemorative Edition - is this the Myst 10th Anniversary DVD edition? It would be nice if it included trailers or pre-release videos of all the MYST games, including Uru, even a collection of screenshots of those games - in other words an overview of what has been developed during the 10 years since the MYST release.

They should make a set for Myst that has 4 DVD's, 1: Myst and realMyst, 2: Riven, 3: Exile
and on the 4th disc put all available interviews, the makeing of videos, and any and all screenshots and trailers for Uru and any other interesting stuff that people would like to see.
And also update any driver stuff on the games so they take advantage of new graphics programs in computers like the newest quicktime and everything. And as one other thing MAKE SURE ITS ON BOTH PC AND MAC. biggrin.gif
also make them all run on Mac OS X

sorry to be so emphatic about the Mac & PC compatability, I hope I don't seem rude, I'm just still irked about Uru being only on PC (as of now anyways{I hope that changes})

~~Thx

Welcome to DPWR randomos! Any questions...don't hesitate to ask! smile.gif

edit: about a commemorative edition of Myst, maybe a leather-bound journal would be a nice addition.

Yes, Fall. I'd certainly buy a leather bound journal - maybe with some nice MYST images inside.

Hi ron and congratulations biggrin.gif

Don't feel intimidated because your new, we're all a nice bunch. Really twitch.gif

Just a question, what the heek does a Community Manager do? I can't imagine for the life of me what one would do. At the moment Cyan and Ubisoft release information on their websites, interviews and articles and we snap it up almost straight away, so I don't think a Community Manager would release info.

If you send feedback back to Ubisoft you might want to head over to MYSTCommunity which (AFAIK) is the largest Myst board currently running wink.gif

What about? Uru? Myst in general? Yourself? Future projects? Depends which you mean as to which questions I have wink.gif

You have to learn about everything D'ni ipbblinky.gif wohba! That's going to take you quite some time. Any help you need feel free to ask biggrin.gif Or do you have access to secret Ubisoft information? tongue.gif Seriously, are you learning just the basics? As much as has been released to the public? Certain information including secrets no-one else outside of Ubisoft and Cyan knows about?

Would it be realMyst or Myst? If it's Myst then it would be uber-cool to have Rime Age (edited to fit the slideshow formula which would most likely be dead easy). Barring that it would be cool if there were extra Journals lying around in the Ages to find that would explain more about what had happened in that Age. Just a small addition, but cool nonethless.

Good luck in your new job biggrin.gif

An idea for the MYST Commemorative might be something similar to what has been described as accompanying the Xbox version of Syberia. Its described as a trailer and "a collection of 2D pictures and their transformation to 3D and a brief biography of the career of Syberia and Amerzone mastermind Benoit Sokal". A similar collection of MYST, RIVEN, EXILE (if its allowed?) and URU trailers and images and background on Cyan and the Cyanites involved in the making of the games would be great. It would certainly make a great promotional piece.

I'll bet (and be sure to correct this guess, ron) that ron has access to information we don't, but at the same time, needs some help catching up to stuff we know. In other words, he may have access to some Uru information, but could use our help with info on the past games.

We will try to help as much as we can. Feel free to browse the information archive - its there for your viewing and learning (and listening wink.gif ) pleasure.

Welcome Randomos smile.gif
It's good to see you are making the rounds.

What would I like to know? Lets see....hmm.....tough question. laugh.gif
A little about yourself? (The get acuainted kind of stuff)
Some juicy little tidbit that would make me give up my beloved dialup (gag retch) and pay the extra fine fee for dsl?

What would I like to see in a commemorative edition of Myst? A "real-Riven" :runs:
(you know, like "real myst is to Myst")

I believe ron is the equivalent of Sam "Volcan" ....he's in charge of the Uru boards, as Sam is in charge of the M/R/Exile boards. There is possibly more to it than that, but I think that's what was posted somewhere here.

hey Randomos, since u got inside information, how bout you tell us more about the online version of URU. i heard about the normal version, and i cant wait to play it (unfortunatly, my classes wont wait), but some things like the montly price, and WHEN the official URU LIVE will start is still unclear, all i heard was it will start early 2004 (please make it spring/summer 2004, i need time to play the normal part of the game!) and many players will probably not have boughten the game by then, since there hasnt been much advertisement for the game, and it will takes months to beat the game, so try and make it around then. also, try and keep the montly rate around or at 10$. my piggybank cant take more of it!
