This is the silver lining to the cloud, although I can imagine what a PITA it was.

You have no idea how much work it took to get this site to be 100% 800x600-resolution compatible while still retaining that left column. It's still not the prettiest thing in the world at that res, but it's at least *useable* now. The User Control Panel is especially high on my list of coolness things

. That used to be a mess at 800x600... waded through the HTML for quite a while before I got it... the search form's even 800x600 now

. Without the left column the default skin *is* 800x600-compatible, but only just, and that 200 or so pixels over there totally killed it. I would still recommend 1024x768 or higher to get rid of nasty text bunching, but like I said, at least you can use the site at a lower res now

First person to bug me about 640x480-compatability gets banned, Cory

I'm very glad that you all enjoy the new look so far. This place is nothing if not a labor of love (sometimes heavy on the labor and light on the love

), and its latest incarnation, while not a huge change, was one that I felt was extremely due (and was actually supposed to be coming *before* the servers went down... the server outage just gave the the chance to perfect it all in silence... the domain came up a few days ago, I've just been fiddling with stuff in that time

). The left column always felt like a waste of screen real-estate, and fairly pointless, so I did a lot of digging and found a system that would work a LOT better

. The rest of the more aesthetic changes, like the stair-stepped headers and the new logo, were just a push to get the site to look a little more sophisticated. It just *feels* more well-rounded to me now... the last red-on-grayscale version was really boxy.
And, as always, I'm forever planning for the future

. Uru's coming out this year, and I'm hoping we get a look at some D'ni tech... this place being geared towards the D'ni Universe, I think it'd be fun to mimick that appearance in here, if we're given the opportunity to see it. Like I said, we'll see. It might not happen, but it'll be fun just to putz around with it on my local server

(wohba... that's a LOT of smilies in this post...)
