Dereno is one of many observation pods (D'ni: zik) in an unnamed 'pod age', possibly used by the D'ni as a zoo or museum. The pod itself is often mistakenly referred to as a 'pod age', although all known observation pods of this type exist in the same age.
[h="2"]Geography and Environment[/h]
The environment is arctic, and there seems to be no noticeable day cycle in Dereno, suggesting that it is near a pole. According to the pod age map released by the DRC, the Dereno pod is the only known pod on the land mass of the same name.
The pod is submerged half-way into the ice, allowing observation of the environment above and below the water. Above the water, icebergs are visible floating among the water, as are multiple tree-like structures of uncertain nature. No animals have been observed on the surface.
Below the waterline, the water is shallow. Coral, sponges and several varieties of fish are visible. See the
listing at the D'ni Zoological Society for plants and fauna.

The pod itself is typical of the style of pod. It's labeled with a large D'ni "25" on the lower floor. Cracks have appeared on the back upper ceiling, though not as large as those found on Negilahn. Frost has built up on the grating and rails before the largest window, as well as around the edges of every window.
[h="2"]Restoration History[/h]
Initially, Dereno appeared on the DRC restoration list. It was on Phase Two of its restoration when Ae'gura was closed to explorers in 2003.
Previous to the release of official release of Dereno, an explorer named ShellShock gained access to Dereno, and shared his instance with many other explorers. Officially, Dereno was the second pod age released by the DRC on March 15, 2007. The linking book was placed in the museum in Ae'gura.
