I've been keeping this a secret long enough... time for some news.

With the impending release of Myst IV: Revelation right around the corner, combined with the release of the new version of Invision Power Board and Invision Gallery (the scripts that make this site work), I took it upon myself to dump a great deal of time into refining the look and feel of this site, and re-focus it on what it was originally designed as: an Archive of information and a Library for stories. You'll still be able to get your news and community information as always, but now getting information out of the Archive will hopefully be easier than ever, and participating in the Library a more unique experience.

The site design has been completely re-built from the ground up, and I want to thank both the DPWR staff and a number of people from the Myst Worlds Site Council at Ubisoft for helping me to test the project as I went. Some of the things you can expect to find in the new site are:
  • "Related Articles" - Searching through the Archive looking for one piece of information can often be a tedious task. The Related Articles tool allows members to reference other D'niPedia entries within their own simply by entering the entries' ID numbers. This list of related articles will appear to the left of each article, and clicking on them will take you there in the same browser window.
  • Library Overhaul - The Library here, I will freely admit, is perhaps one of the most neglected parts of the site. The new site launch will rectify this problem. The Library will continue to be driven by the forum, but all data will be displayed in a format more like the Archive's display. Also, comments are hidden when viewing a story so that you can read the entire thing all the way through without having to jump over comments that may break the flow. Comments are also handled differently, but I can't really figure out a good way to describe it... you'll have to see it in action, and it's quite cool. Additionally, members will now be able to create stories which can be added to only by the author, or they can choose one of three round robin story types. More on this will be released with the site, but again, it's very cool.
  • News Changes - The news has always been an important part of DPWR, and it's not going away now. Latest news will still be listed on the homepage, and you'll still be able to filter the news much like you can now. New in this upcoming launch will be the ability for members to post news for approval by the News staff, so if you know we've missed something, you can write it up yourself smile.gif.
I'm very excited about this. If all goes well, I should be able to launch the site before the end of September. Right now the target date is September 25th, but please understand that issues beyond my control may push this date back by a few days. I'm trying very hard to get this site out before Revelation, and so far it's looking like I'll make it. And, just to whet your appeties, here's a slightly larger picture of the image in this news post:

Just a heads up... I don't have much left to do to get the site upgraded, but it's enough that I may need to push the launch date back a day or two. I'll try to avoid that if at all possible, but if you log in Sunday morning and still see the brown DPWR, know that I'm doing my best to get it up ASAP :).
