I notice that we don't have a section for maps - is there a reason for this? There is a good website run by Zalthor (Maps) that has a lot of Myst maps - but not all of them, e.g. there are no maps for Exile.

If desired, I could start scanning in some of these maps but I would need some guidance on picture quality and file size and whether it should have a separate section at the top level of the Archive or included as a topic in the Ages section or the General Information section. I have the strategy guides for all the games, although my strategy guide for Uru is the CC and not ABM which may have some maps.

Let me know what you think.

I notice that we don't have a section for maps - is there a reason for this?  There is a good website run by Zalthor (Maps) that has a lot of Myst maps - but not all of them, e.g. there are no maps for Exile.

The Ages of Myst all have maps from the Masterpiece Edition hint guide included in their articles (which I figured was the logical place for them to go wink.gif), but Riven, Exile, Revelation, and Uru are all presently mapless because there's a lack of really really good maps out there for those Ages. I know there used to be some really great Riven maps made by someone a long time ago, but I don't remember the site address or if it even still exists.

I know that the maps in the Uru: ABM strategy guide are all hand-drawn sketchy things, and never show the whole Age at once, so I'm not 100% keen on using in the Archive, and the Exile strategy guide maps are a little hard to make out since they're just top-down renders of each Age converted to black and white... I've not picked up a copy of the Revelation guide yet, though, so I dunno what the maps in that one look like. If they look good, we can put them in the Archive, but if not, we may have to resort to asking people to draw them for us wink.gif. I'm just a bit leery of using low-quality maps made in Paint because I want to keep the production quality high on as much stuff as I can. Maybe we could ask the Uru Cartographers if we could borrow their maps for the Uru Ages, because those look really nice overall, and are pretty well detailed. Or maybe we could con Gadren into making some maps for us using his PRPExplorer method wink.gif.

Cathy, if you want to send me a PM with one of the maps from Revelation attached (make sure it's small, but still large enough to make out wink.gif), I'll let you know what I think. I dunno, maybe I can con Katie into getting some overhead maps or something from the Rev Devs (yes, I live in a fantasy world wink.gif).

Are these the Riven maps you were thinking of Alahmnat?

What about that awesome colour map that came with the Riven strategy guide?

I'd scan it if I still had it. cries.gif It got left behind at my friend's house and eventually was thrown out due to being a bit "ripped" angry.gif

Aha! Yes, those are indeed the maps I was talking about! Thank you, Kyven biggrin.gif.

I'll email the creator (assuming her address is still valid) and ask if we can add them...

Thanks for that Alahmnat - when I went home last night, I double-checked the Uru: CC guide - there's an early map of Ae'gura in the colour section but I suspect that a decent Ki photo of the map in Tokotah would be better, and a hand-drawn sketch of the puzzle path for Kadish Tolesa which is probably the same as what you mention for the Uru: ABM guide. And re-checking the Revelation guide, there aren't any maps other than a poor copy of the Achenar's map on the sail on the ship in Haven. I was thinking of a fudge along the line of screenshots from the Help system in Revelation and then tracing them over (using Freehand) to create maps.

And I agree about the quality of the Exile maps - they would require very high-res scans (and consequently big file sizes) to make them decent. Though I suppose I could try scanning them in and re-tracing them in Freehand - I can always chalk up the time to "practicing my mapping skills" for work (I get a lot of free time working on the weekend).

I might give that a go - otherwise we'll need to appeal to the Uru cartographers and/or Gadren.

And I have to confess - I had forgotten that the Ages of Myst articles had the maps attached to them. boot1.gif

Well DJC set up a maps section on the sites a while back that was slowly being updated with new maps..they are currently down at the moment due to the server move but I dont see why DPWR cant use our maps when we finalize designs for them.

I created a Map of the Second Floor of the Gahreesen Well Building for the Guild of Cartographers, although, for some reason, it never made it onto the GoC website. I will happily submit a hi res copy of it to the DPWR archives. I am also working on the first floor of the building.

A lo-res preview:

There is also an animated version available, which shows the movement of the building:

The Zalthor website maps are wonderful!

The only problem is that "the site cannot be found."

Has it moved? Does anyone know where or if the maps in it are now available someplace else?
