It's blazingly fast, especially compared to QuickTime. It even makes FFmpeg (the codec built into VLC) look sluggish. To put it another way, my 8-year-old computer (AthlonXP 1800+) is capable of playing full-screen 720p video without dropping frames if I'm using CoreAVC. Seriously, with CoreAVC, H.264 will play back fine on practically ANY vaguely-modern computer. I highly suggest you install and use the CoreAVC H.264 codec.
