Gay Marriage

Today’s post encourages use of the comment section. I have a proposition for anyone who is actually readiing this blog…

I’m interested in hearing possible reasons for bannin gay marriages in the United States. Leave a comment with your reason in the comment section below this post. There’s only one rule: for your reason to be considered valid, you may not use the following words in your reasoning: “God”, “sin”, “sanctity”, “divine”, “Christ”, “Lord”, “Jesus”, “the Pope”, or “abomination”.

Have at it :).

I think the biggest reason why people who AREN’T opposed to it for religious reasons, is because they’re afraid that allowing gay marriage will allow poly marriages, and that’ll all be a mess of paperwork, especially with imigration and all, and taxes.. especially taxes. That’s really the only other thing I’ve heard though.

With my extra four years of experience and knowledge, I can say that I understand why they’re afraid of the poly thing. It’s not that they’re afraid of true poly’s like some of our friends.. they’re afraid of the people who want to be poly just because it serves their means.. it could be cheating (which is what the vast majority of fake polys use it for) which isn’t good for anyone, really. you have to have a happy population.. and suddenly giving people acceptability to be poly is great for those of us who are true poly, but not for those who just want a quick fuck, or an affair, or whatever. It could be immigration (imagine if you will, that suddenly some american comes back with 10 mexican wives. suddenly, immigrants have a much better way to get into the country and stay). or it could be tax evasion (I’m not sure exactly how this one works, but it’s something that’s come up before.)

so, in summary, the people who aren’t afraid of it for religious reasons, are more afraid of it because it’s a slippery slope.. and the above things could conceivably happen if we get to legalizing poly.

Honestly though, I think the only people who would really be pushing for legalized poly, are the fake polys. True polys seem to be pretty happy just existing.. and since Christianity fairly shuns them, I don’t think that marriage is a big deal. Handfasting will work just fine.

wobha, you’re going to be so confused when you come back to your meeting and find this. rofl
