So.
Hi.
How are you? That's good...
I'm doing fine, thanks.
Been a while, huh?
Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaah...
*ahem*
Greetings, one and all! I know I've been absent for quite a while now, and I apologize for that. Real world concerns plus Mysterium planning burn-out sort of took over for a while, and left me with not a whole lot of drive to keep up with the site. But! It's a new year, and I want to get back on track here.
So, what does that mean for DPWR, and the Guild of Archivists? Well, a few things.
First, as far as the website is concerned, there's a lot to do. The code here is getting well on in years, and the forum software we're using has passed its support-'til date. Some of it is starting to fray a little, and as a result there will need to be some temporary restrictions placed on account creation until a fix or full upgrade can be implemented. Because of the volume of spam accounts we've been getting hammered with, I will be disabling registration for the time being. As my first priority is to provide a safe, ideally spam-free place for people to gather and communicate, I must put the needs of our current members ahead of any desire to grow our user base. If you are not a bot and would like to sign up for an account at DPWR, please contact me via email, Twitter, or Second Life. My contact details will be listed later in this post.
Looking ahead, there are big plans that have been sitting on the horizon for well over a year now to get the site upgraded to the latest version of the forum software and its attendant add-ons, but because of a lack of time (and to a certain extent, knowledge) on my part, I've been unable to carry things across the finish line. Things are mostly ready, but the Archive is the sticking point; the module we're using to run it hasn't been updated by its developer in years, and he seems to have vanished entirely. As a result, I've been trying to cobble together a solution myself, but I don't have it completed and updating the site without it would largely defeat the purpose of running the site in the first place.
I haven't had a whole lot of luck with this in the past, but at this point, it's the only way things are going to get done around here, so let's try it one more time. If you, or someone you know, is skilled in the art of PHP web development and may be interested in helping me get the Archive module of the website updated to be compatible with IP.Board 3.x, please contact me. I can be reached via private message on the forum, by email at alahmnat [at] dpwr [dawt] net, via Twitter at @alahmnat or @ArchivistsGuild, or in Second Life as Alahmnat Silvercloud. I don't have a whole lot in the way of money, but I'd be willing to compensate you somewhat for your contributions if unpaid volunteering isn't an option.
Now, what's going on with the Guild?
At the moment, nothing really. I have some communications to catch up on in this area, so there will be more updates soon, but for now, we're in a holding pattern. The forum software update will (at least ideally) bring some much-needed extra capabilities to the Archive to make maintaining certain sections a bit easier. Outside of maintenance, repair, and whatever remains on the Archive Projects list though, I don't have any grand plans for new projects right now. With MOULa itself in something of a holding pattern and plans for a FCAL process regarding user-created content seemingly all but evaporated, the task at hand is currently just to build out the existing collection of canon information as completely as possible, and see what happens next.
I again want to apologize for my extended absence. It was unfair and wrong of me to leave things the way I did. I'm back now though, and hopefully not too late to at least get things back to where they were before I left.
